Explanation

Moelecules are composed of atoms, linked toegether by covalent bonds. Molecules are the smallest pieces of a chemical substance that still retain the chemical properties of the substance. When a molecule is broken into its constituent atoms, the individual atoms can have much different properties than the molecule from which they came.

There are only about a hundred different types of atoms that are found in nature. Each atom is made up from combinations of protons, neutrons and electrons.
